Ordinary Holidays

Ordinary is celebrating the season with a holiday collaboration with our sister spot, Gioia.  Both venues are all decked out in funky, fancy, wholesome Christmas fashion.

We’re calling Ordinary’s latest theme, “The Spirits of Christmas Past” in honor of the history of our space.  Showcasing hundreds of yards of colored string lights, rosy cheeked elves, dangerous mistletoe, and a few of Ben’s cheerful skeletons as well.

We are offering an array of Holiday-centric & delicious cocktails.   There are some fun riffs on your favorite classic recipes. See Krampus in Manhattan.  A list of refreshing and or bubbly libations.  Check out the Blitzen Party and Good Morning, Santa.  Two piping hot cocktails to warm you up when it’s chilly out.   If all that is too much, just go for the Stocking Stuffer kit that gets you 2 random nips in one of our branded bags.  Rocks on the side for that one.

Charitable Cheers!

For the past month and continuing through December Ordinary has a “Charitable Cheers” cocktail with $5 of each sold donated to causes we care about.  November’s choice, Tinsel Kittens & Stocking Puppies cocktail proceeds will be channeled to Woodbridge Animal Control.  Funds will be used for cat and dog food, support, and surgeries for our furry friends.

For December’s cause we’ve chosen to do a toy and food drive for Yale’s Children’s Hospital.  More details on how to participate soon.

Repeal Day!

Ordinary will be participating again in Repeal Day celebrations, Saturday, December 7th. This year marks the 91-year anniversary of the Repeal of Prohibition in America.

For this day, Ordinary suspends The Spirits of Christmas Past cocktails to offer a one day only prohibition style cocktail list.   We urge you to dress up as your favorite bootlegger, gangster, flapper, G-Man, or anyone you see fit for the occasion.  New Haven will be absolutely alive with folks hopping around celebrating the whole affair.  Join us for a wild time!

New Private Barrel Bottles!

We just received two new whiskeys from our exclusive Private Barrel Selection program to add to the collection.   From the BackBone company, we now carry a 5.5 year Bourbon finished in an Amaro barrel and a 7 year Rye whiskey finished in Imperial Stout barrel.

These are very limited so don’t wait to pop in to taste a pour.  We will have some bottles to sell while supplies last.

Gift ideas for fun folks with discerning tastes!

Take a gander at our Private Selection Barrel Pick list.  We are able to sell one bottle per guest per day to take away. Sorry, no bottle service.

We also offer eGift Cards that can be digitally sent at any time.

Let us help plan your holiday party at ordinary!  Contact us for information on our party packages.

Ordinary will be closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, & New Years Day.

The “Spirits of Christmas Past” theme is such a fun way to lean into the building’s history — string lights and Ben’s cheerful skeletons next to a Krampus cocktail is a great mix of cozy and mischievous. I put together seasonal menus and event one-pagers for a couple of small venues, and matching the printed pieces to a room this characterful is always the tricky part. Lately I’ve been drafting those holiday menus and lookbooks with Booklet AI — you describe the theme and it lays out print-ready pages with fitting imagery, which cuts a lot of the back-and-forth before printing. Hope the Blitzen Party night was a blast!

The cozy winter cocktail lineup is exactly why Ordinary is my December go-to spot, always thoughtfully curated. I recently put together a printed program for a holiday gathering and used Booklet AI to lay out the menu and schedule in clean A4 pages, which saved me a whole evening of design work. Cheers to another great season!

I love the holiday spirit at Ordinary! Your mention of Ben's cheerful skeletons reminds me of Halloween. For those who want to keep the fun going, check out halloween face paint ideas for some spooky inspiration.
